Sending a Message FAQ's
Q. How do I make the “from” field a name instead of a number?
A. Click on “from” when sending a new SMS, type your name in the box provided and leave “is a mobile number” unchecked. Click “Add” and “Okay”. Using a name can be a great idea, promoting brand awareness. It can be up to 11 characters long and you can use different names for different purposes.
Once your names are added, simply choose which one you want to use from the drop down list next to the “from” field.

Q. What does one message credit cover?
A. One credit = one 160 character message. The character counter monitors this as you are typing a message so that you can stick to one credit if you wish. This is particularly useful if you are sending out thousands of messages at once.
You can set the message to a maximum of 160 characters by clicking: Tools/ Options/ and on the general tab, uncheck the box “Allow me to enter message greater than 160 characters.”
To automatically shorten your message in to text speak, use the translator tool.
Be particularly careful with your character count when using merge fields as the merge field content size may vary considerably between recipients.
Q. How do I send to a group on e-txt™ Web?
A. In the left hand navigation menu, right-click on the relevant group name underneath general contacts. Choose send SMS on the drop-down menu. You will see that the group name is in the “To” field. Type your message as normal and click “send”.
Q. How do I set up an automatic response to a message?
A. You can set up automatic responses to messages coming in to e-txt™.
In e-txt go to: Tools/ Message Rules/ New
The response can be a message that gets sent out to the contact based on their message content/ time of day, their number and more. You can set up different responses, for example, based on the word the messages starts with i.e. “text in/reply “info” for details about our latest offers”.

Q. What is the maximum length of a text message I am able to send and how many credits do they use?
A. One message equals 160 characters. Each message costs you one credit. When you send messages that run over 160 characters your message will continue into 2 messages, etc. These messages are linked back together when delivered to the handset, but to do this it uses up four characters.
So after your first message of 160 characters 4 characters will be used in additional messages to keep them linked together.
It works like this…
160 characters = 1 credit
304 characters = 2 credits
456 characters = 3 credits, etc … and so on with 156 char per credit.
Our platform can handle a text that is up to 6 messages in length.
Q. When sending an email to SMS (known as ‘SMS via email’ in etxt), how do I stop it sending the whole email?
A. When sending email to SMS you can write #end# and anything after that will be ignored – very useful if you want to ignore email footers.
When a summary is sent to both email and SMS, the same message will be sent to the email account, where the text after #end# will also be received.
